I have been using the PasswordManager for years and I don’t know what I would do without it! I do all my shopping, banking and planeticket buying online and I have so many passwords that I used to write down in a little book. Then I heard about PasswordManager, tried it out and since then I have been recommending it to all my fellow translators. Will this run on a 64 bit Vista machine? I have Java Runtime installed but app will not launch.
How do I get the icon to start the program? When I put it on my desktop and click it( the icon) it simply opens up photo gallery. When I drag the program to the desktop, the icon stays separate.
Great software. Been using it on slackware-linux, without a problem.
However, when I try to run it on the Debian/lenny distrobution, I get a window that says “file does not exist” but no indication what file it cannot find.

Any chance that attributes might be renamed in a future update? (ok, played around with ini file, you can change them there… documentation for the masses? 😉 Definable number of attributes?
Timeout values smaller than 5 minutes for the traveler and paranoid geek who likes options? (30 seconds, 1, 2 minute) Maybe tied in with power save or screen save routines. If I step away or get side tracked by a question, I would like to know this will lock faster. (looks like this can be set to 1 in ini file)
One click synchronise to an options set usb location for the travelers who use both portable and desktop machines. No it doesn’t take much to copy the files, but for ease of use it might be nice.
Just a few thoughts after some testing. Again, thanks for a great utility!
AWESOME password mgmt app for a USB stick.
One gotcha: due to filesystem differences across OS’s, you may get a “File Not Found” error when moving between e.g. Mac OS X and XP. To get around this, simply edit the .ini file so it references your main .pwd file locally in the FILE NAME = ./master.pwd instead of FILE NAME = /Volumes/…etc. … et voila, you can bring the USB stick w/ you and use PasswordDragon on BOTH OS’s going back and forth between them. Love it.
I also spent a lot of time looking for a PM; was using Whisper32, but no upgrade. Yours is the best I’ve found for my purposes. I looked for an enhancement list, but no luck – so here’s a little suggestion for the program (or two) -) I would love to be able to print each PW with all memos and column heads (selectable) on letter sized paper for a PW book to keep off site. Also, it would be wonderful if the column heads were floating, so drag & drop to desired location and add/remove column heads from the file. Hope that makes sense. I need to put the email address I use in one of the columns, and can’t manage to shift the titles around easily. Also, when I print out a copy, I can only print Acct name, User ID, URL, Notes, and Category. The rest of the information won’t print for me. Still working on it with Excel. I’m unable to export database with passwords. When I select Password, it pops up a warning box, and then unselects Password when I close the box. What am I missing? Why does it warn of something it will not do? Thanks.
How can I export the file with the passwords? When I click the box for passwords in the export dialog, the warning comes up, I click OK but the checkbox is cleared. So the passwords don’t export.

I find I start a lot of my computer sessions by opening PWD and clicking Browser on the desired field and going from there, whether I am on my Fedora 14 Linux desktop, my wife’s W7 desktop or my eeePC.
My only complaints are that in Fedora the File – Open requites a lot of very fast clicking to navigate drives and directories. I eventually get to a USB drive but a lot of the clicks do nothing and it is quicker to copy the .pwd file from the USB to the hard drive home directory. Also the right click paste is not available, I have to remember to use Ctrl. V.
Unfortnatualy the command line interface does not show the password – it shows only the *-sign.
it will be great if I can store files in particular record like certificates and etc.
for example user+password+certificate file.
Easy, usable, secure, no frills. In my opinion the best pws manager sw.

I tried Password Dragon out today on my Win7 64-bit OS and it looks like a good program but I couldn’t get it to import a .csv file of passwords from my previous password program. It wouldn’t show the file in the directory where I put it. Other files were visible but not the .csv or even the .txt files.
Also, I want to export the entries to a .txt file but it won’t allow me to choose the password. A message appears and says it isn’t a good idea but that you should put it in a secure place. And there is no print function to print out a list of the passwords. This is for my home computer so security is not a problem. So unfortunately, I won’t be able to use your program. I’d be happy to donate if these functions were available. Good work.

So far I really like the application, especially because it does not require an installer – so it is easy to use on computers you don’t have admin rights on.
Two things have given me trouble though:
1) When I try to export a file and check the “Password” box (for any export format) a warning box comes up, I click ok, and the “Password” box remains unchecked. Maybe this is a bug? I’d like to be able to override this warning and check the box anyways.
2) When I try to open my .pwm file (created with v5.0.8) on another computer (using v5.0.8), it gives an error “Invalid Password” – even though I *know* I typed it correctly. In fact, if I type my password correctly, click ok, and cancel the second prompt for password I can see the contents of my file – I just can’t add any new records (feature grayed out). If I deliberately mistype my password by even one character the file will not open at all. I am also unable to change the password, since I get an error “Invalid Old Password”.
Maybe someone else has experienced these problems too and there is a work-around?

In regards to the “Invalid File” error I mentioned in my comment above, it is now resolved! I think perhaps the .pwm file got corrupted somehow.
At first I got concerned because even the computer I first created the file on gave the error when opening it, but it turns out one of Password Dragon’s features saved me – PD creates a backup when you open the file and when you save it, if you so choose.
I changed the extention of the backup, modified one minute before the problem file, and it opens without issue! It took a little while restore my confidence that the file wouldn’t just get corrupted or the problem come up again, but after rebooting the computer and trying the file on a second computer it is still working fine – so I’m hoping it’s fixed for good!
Now, if the “Password” box could be checked when exporting…. Then I could burn an unencrypted copy to a CD or something and keep it in a firesafe to feel even better about using Password Dragon – *just incase* another issue comes up and my file becomes unreadable.

I use a nokia 2700 classic phone. Unfortunately I can’t use the password dragon on my phone after installation. Any suggestions?

Programme works well although there was a bit of text jumbling until I selected Metal as the default view, this is running on Ubuntu 10.10. Haven’t tried it on my MAC or Windows machines yet.

Excellent username-password storage application. Small and simple while remaining robust and secure. I’ve tested many so-called password managers; Password Dragon passes with flying colors. I can attest first-hand this application works great on every OS and computer I’ve tried it on from an ancient 500MHz PowerPC iMac running Mac OS to the most modern computer hardware running GNU/Linux Ubuntu.
This is probably me being daft but if I needed to use one of the backups that PD has taken then what would I do?
I don’t actually need to do this but I just wondered how to.

Until recently I have been using your excellent program, which now holds a long list of my various ‘user names’ and passwords. However, I recently bought a new computer and started to transfer all my files to it immediately. I duly transferred
Password Dragon successfully, except that I either could not find or boot up the actual file holding the vital info. Could you possibly tell me what I have been doing wrong and how to set up both the program and the existing data file to run within it, as previously. I would be very grateful for your help.

Password Dragon At 10-10-2014 the latest stable version is V5.0.9 from :- http://www.passworddragon.com I have been using Password Dragon for 2 years now, and highly recommend it, after testing other many password managers, that all failed, because they were actually payware, or had problems.
Installation
1 You must have Java installed.
2a Create a folder C:\Program Files, or My Documents, or anywhere convienient, name it Password Dragon, move the zip file there, and unzip it.
2b Alternatively, create a folder in your D drive, name it Password Dragon, move the zip file there, and unzip it. This means that it will not be disturbed if you reinstall Windows in your C Drive.
2 Right click the passworddragon.jar file, then reate a shortcut, and put it in the start menu.
3 Now it’s ready to run, as it is portable, not installed.
4 Finally, get the zip file from the recycle bin, and restore it back to your sofware folder for safe keeping.
Advice 1
When you first start using PD you will find it very difficult to use, this is because it has a lot of usefull facilities to learn, so persevere, and you will soon find it very easy to use.

Some cut, copy, and paste functions are done on the keyboard.

This program is great. I have been using Password Dragon for years on Linux with no problems. I have recently bought a new 4K screen laptop and cannot get Password Dragon fonts to scale (need to be much bigger on 4K screens). Anyone know how to do this?
