Based on the feedback provided by some users, I have compiled the list of enahancements requested by the users in addition to my own wish list. Please go through the list and send me an email [ ramix_info at yahoo dot com] with the list of enahancements you would like to see in the future release of password manager. If you don't see your suggestions listed below, please let me know.
FUTURE ENHANCEMENT
- Ability to set the DATE format for the {sysdate} field.
- Currently the default date format for the {sysdate} is dd-mon-yyyy hh24:mi:ss tz
- User will be able to specify a new date format from the Options window.
- In the main table, make the enter key equivalent to the double-click action.
- Ability to change the output of export to HTML into different format.
- Provide the tabular and record-by-record option for html output.
- Add "Created On" and "Updated On" field to the record.
- Create a log file which has the following info: activity and timestamp.
- Enable Log : Yes/No. User can specify whether logging can be enabled or not from the Options window.
- Following basic operations can be logged:
- add,edit,delete record.
- change password.
- new file creation.
- file open etc.
- Log file will be in the following format
- [time stamp] activity
- e.g. [11-Apr-2004 12:50:10 PST] New record added
- e.g. [11-Apr-2004 12:50:10 PST] Password changed for C:\data\my_file.pwm
- Ability to specify a record as private record.
- While adding/editing a record, there will be a private record check-box.
- If a record is specified as private, it will not be visible in the main table.
- If a record is specified as private, it will not be searchable.
- New View menu will be added with the following sub-menu
- Show private records
- Hide private record.
- By default private record are not visible/serchable, unless user selects the 'show private records' option.
- Change the notes filed to a multiline textarea.
- Ability to enter multi-line notes. Currently it's just one line text box.
- Ability to choose the look and feel.
- Currently the look and feel is kunstoff.
- Ability for the user to select different look and feel.
- Ability to print records.
- Currently there is no print option. However user can do a export to HTML and print the html record.
- A dialog similar to 'Export to HTML' will be displayed where user can specify the following before printing.
- Specify selected records (or) all record.
- Specify which fields needs to be printed.
- Save the last look and feel of the Table.
- Remember the column width specified by the user.
- Windows explorer style record browsing.
- Currently records are viewed in the table.
- Users will have the option to choose from the following view.
- Table View. ( This is the current view. )
- Tree View. ( This is the windows explorer style record browsing. )
- In this option, the left hand side will have all the categories. User can click on a category which will display all the records in that category in the right hand side table.
- Currently records are viewed in the table.
- Support for multiple language.
- Currently the application is only in English.
- Ability for the user to select different languages.
- Save the *.pwm file in the unicode format, so that the same *.pwm file can be used under all OS.
- Currently when user saves the *.pwm file, it stores in the native OS format.
- [ I would like to hear from users who are using this on multiple OS. Are you able to use the same *.pwm file under multiple OS? i.e if you have created a *.pwm file in linux, are you able to ftp the file and use it under Windows?. Please let me know.]
EXTENSIONS
- Command line Password Manager. (An extension of the existing password manager.)
- Ability to use the password manager from the command line. [without using the GUI.]

- Ability to encrypt/decrypt external file. [Use the BlowFishJ encryption algorithm.]
- Please note that this has nothing to do with the existing *.pwm file used by the password manager to store user records.
- Tools menu will have the following sub-menu
- Encrypt external file
- Select some text file from the computer which you need to encrypt. User should specify a password for encrypting the file. A new file will be created with the extension *.pwm_enc
- Decrypt external file.
- Decrypt the *.pwm_enc file. Specify the password which was provided during the encryption.
- This will decrypt the *.pwm_enc file and create *.pwm_dec file.
- Ability to store some small text in an encrypted file.
- Ability to invoke a text editor (simple textarea), where user can type some text.
- User has to provide a password while saving the file. This file will encrypted.
- User has to use the same text editor to open the saved file.
- User should provide the password while opening the encrypted file.
NEW APPLICATIONS
- Password Manager for the Web. ( New J2EE application. )
- Password Manager for Windows CE ( New application using - Java Swing for Pocket PC ).
